How do I find dump points on my trip around Australia? Dump poinst….This is not everyone’s favourite topic! One of the very unfavourable chores of travelling Australia in a caravan is keeping on top of where to dispose of your waste. Dump points, also known as dump stations or dump sites, are designated areas where you can empty your caravan’s waste tanks safely and hygienically. We’ll guide you on how to find dump points across Australia:

1. Utilise Online Resources

The internet is a valuable tool for locating dump points in Australia. Several websites and apps provide comprehensive databases of dump points across the country. Most council websites will list the points in the area. Websites like https://toiletmap.gov.au/ and www.dumppoints.com have interactive maps that allow you to search for dump points based on your location or specific route. The government toilet map is the true winner for the best web-based map (there is also a smartphone app version). Set your preferences on the search to isolate the public dump points available.

2. Caravan Parks

Many caravan parks offer dump facilities for their guests. If you get stuck and there are no public dump points, enquire at a caravan park if you can use their facilities. We had to recently use one and they did charge $10 to use it.

3. Local Councils and Visitor Information Centers

Local councils and visitor information centres often provide information on dump points in their area. Make a habit of stopping by visitor information centres not only to find information on dump points but to pick up some local knowledge on attractions nearby.

4. Smartphone Apps

Now, smartphone apps is where it is at. There are many apps available to tell you information on dump points and water fill-up stations. Apps like Campedia, WikiCamps, CamperMate, Toilet Map (Australian Government app), and Caravan Helper have comprehensive databases of dump points, often including user reviews, amenities, and additional facilities available at each location. These apps are convenient and allow you to find dump points on the go. You can even download some of them offline so you are not lost on where to find a dump point if you don’t have any service.

5. GPS Navigation Systems

Some GPS navigation systems designed for caravan travel include databases of dump points. Before setting off on your journey, ensure that your GPS device or navigation app has the latest updates and includes dump point information. We have the Hema HX-2 Navigation system and it has been the best road trip item we have purchased! When we have two hungry or tired kids in the car and we are trying to find facilities, the Hema HX-2 Navigation system has saved us time and frustration while on the road.

6. Ask Fellow Travelers

When on the road, fellow travellers can be an excellent source of information. Engage with other caravan enthusiasts at caravan parks, rest areas, or online communities (such as Facebook groups). They may have valuable firsthand knowledge of dump points along your route or can recommend hidden gems that might not be listed in official directories. I love that fellow caravanners really don’t mind chatting about sewage disposal!

7. Camp Books

If you love a good physical map the Camps 12 Australia, 2023 Edition is the way to go. This is handy if you are out of service or want to plan your trip without spending all that item on a device!

hope this article helps you locate dump points along your journey and make this task a little more hassle-free. Remember to plan ahead and respect the facilities provided at each dump point. We all know a dirty dump point is no fun for anyone! With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a hassle-free and eco-friendly travel experience in Australia.
