The Eyre Peninsula is a stunning region in South Australia known for its rugged coastline, beautiful beaches, and abundant marine life. The region is also home to many tourist attractions that make it a must-visit destination for travellers. Here are our top five suggestions for tourist attractions on the Eyre Peninsula.

1. Swim with Sea Lions at Baird Bay

Baird Bay is a beautiful and secluded location on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, and it’s one of the best places in the world to swim with sea lions. These playful creatures will swim and play around you as you snorkel, providing an unforgettable experience. Tours to swim with the sea lions are available from the town of Streaky Bay, located about an hour’s drive away. Make sure to camp nearby at Perlubie Beach to make your stay in the area unforgettable.

2. Explore Coffin Bay, National Park

Coffin Bay National Park is a stunning area on the southern end of the Eyre Peninsula, featuring beautiful beaches, an untouched coastline, and a diverse range of wildlife. The park is home to a range of activities, including hiking, fishing, and camping, and visitors can explore the many walking trails, go swimming, or try their hand at surfing. We loved exploring the unique coastline and impressive sand dunes. There is so much to explore and take in within the National Park, so make sure to visit over a couple of days.

2. Visit the Port Lincoln National Park

The Port Lincoln National Park is another stunning area on the southern end of the Eyre Peninsula. The park is home to several walking trails, picnic areas, and secluded beaches, making it a great spot for a day trip or weekend getaway. Memory Cove was a highlight of our Eyre Peninsula visit. We camped for three nights in our Austrack off-road camper trailer and wished we could stay longer. There is no reception in this remote area, so make sure you are equipped with the right emergency gear. If you can make the 4WD trip down to Memory Cove, make sure you take supplies for a day trip or take the swags for a night or two. You will need a key from the Port Lincoln Information Centre as there are only a limited number of vehicles permitted to visit each day.

3. Cage Dive with Great White Sharks

For the more adventurous, cage diving with Great White Sharks is an unforgettable experience that is still on our bucket list. Port Lincoln is one of the few places in the world where visitors can safely cage dive with these magnificent creatures. Several tour operators offer this experience, including Calypso Star Charters and Adventure Bay Charters.

4. Tour the Gawler Ranges

The Gawler Ranges are a stunning range of ancient volcanic peaks and gorges located in the northern Eyre Peninsula. The area is home to a range of wildlife, including kangaroos, emus, and wedge-tailed eagles, and visitors can explore the many walking trails, go camping, or enjoy a scenic drive through the park. Make sure to take your camera with you to capture the sunset and sunrise across the rock formations.

The Eyre Peninsula is one of our favourite peninsulas of South Australia and it offers a great range of exciting tourist attractions for solo or family travellers. Make sure you do your research on the best season to visit for the activities you plan to do, but in our opinion, the Eyre Peninsula is great to visit all year round.
